Common Questions
WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Cosmetic tattooing allows you to enhance your face characteristics in a natural way. It's also known as micropigmentation or semi-permanent makeup. With tiny, sterile, disposable needles, colored pigment is implanted beneath the skin's surface. This gives the effect of hair strokes while also enhancing the face's natural characteristics.
WHAT IS THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN COSMETIC AND STANDARD BODY TATTOOING?
Cosmetic tattooing brings out your best features. It's a softer, more subtle augmentation that's supposed to appear natural. Ink is used in body tattoos, while pigments are used in cosmetic tattoos. These pigments are meant to fade gradually over time.
Fading is desirable because it allows the artist to alter the color and shape of the tattoo over time as the client's natural coloration and facial changes. Body tattoo needles also penetrate the skin far deeper than cosmetic tattoo needles.
CAN COSMETIC TATTOOING BE HARMFUL?
Before and during your microblading surgery, a very effective topical anesthetic cream and gel are used to numb the area. The pain threshold varies from person to person, and every effort is taken to keep you comfortable throughout the treatment. It's possible that having this microblading done during your menstrual cycle will make you more uncomfortable throughout the treatment.
WHAT AGE DO I NEED TO GET TATTOOED?
In Scotland, you must be at least 18 years old to receive cosmetic tattooing.
I'M PREGNANT OR NURSING, CAN I GET TATTOOED?
We do not do cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women as a precaution.
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF COSMETIC TATTOOING?
Cosmetic tattoos are considered semi-permanent and do not wash away. They may need to be updated every 1-2 years as they fade over time. The number of sessions required is determined by a number of factors, including the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), and whether or not any chemical peels are used to the treated regions.
Please keep in mind that ultimate results are impossible to predict because each skin type holds pigments differently and breaks down at various speeds. At your second visit, we'll assess how your skin has responded to the pigment and make any required adjustments.
Cosmetic tattoo methods typically require multiple sessions, with each new operation requiring at least two visits. Your second session can be scheduled at any time.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO YOU REQUIRE?
Most clients will require at least two treatments, spaced at least six weeks apart. After the first week, the color of most operations appears substantially lighter. Some clientele love this, while others prefer a more daring appearance. At the second appointment, we'll test color retention and make any required modifications. Everyone heals at their own pace and in their own way. Do not be concerned if your cosmetic tattoo does not heal completely after the first session. During your next appointment, we may always go darker and add more density.
HOW WILL MY COSMETIC TATTOO BE AFFECTED BY THE FACTORS BELOW?
Sun exposure will greatly diminish the appearance of your tattoo, thus sunscreen should be taken (after healed) to keep your enhancement looking good.
Skin cell regeneration: The longer it takes for skin cells to regenerate, the longer the pigment will last.
The rate at which the pigment is absorbed by the skin: The slower the absorption, the longer the pigment will stay on the skin.
Color selection: Some colors fade faster than others, for example, a blonde color fades faster than a dark brown color.
Because of the continual exposure, enhancements to the face, for example, fade more quickly.
Any bleeding that occurs during the tattooing technique will diminish the amount of pigment that is absorbed. Alcohol and several drugs thin the blood and should not be consumed before or during surgery.
WHAT SHOULD I DO PRIOR TO MY EYEBROW OPTION?
Bring a few reference photos to your visit if you have a specific shape and color in mind for your combinations brows or microblading. You may fill in your brows as usual so that we can consider the shape you wish.
If you get your brows shaped, waxed, threaded, or coloured on a regular basis, please have them done at least 3 days before your consultation. We can trim any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape if necessary.
If you intend to take a vacation, you should schedule your trip at least 14 days after the surgery. We ask that our clients refrain from using any blood-thinning medications for at least 72 hours before their session.
Vitamin E, aspirin, niacin, fish oil supplements, and ibuprofen are examples.
Limit your caffeine intake and avoid drinking alcohol the night before and the day of your visit. If you've ever taken Accutane on prescription, you must wait at least a year before considering this operation.
It is strongly advised that you avoid exposure to the sun and tanning beds for 30 days before and after your surgery. You will need to reschedule and forfeit your deposit if you arrive for your appointment with a new tan or sunburn. When your skin exfoliates as a result of a sunburn, the pigment is removed.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER, HOW WILL I APPEAR? HOW DOES THE HEALING PROCESS WORK?
For the first few days, your semi-permanent makeup will appear darker and more vivid than usual. During the healing process, this will gradually lighten. Swelling and redness are mild. Please see our aftercare instructions for further information.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Here are specific guidelines for aftercare. It is critical to follow these recommendations in order to ensure a comfortable healing process and the best possible results.
WHAT WILL MY FUTURE COSMETIC TATTOO LOOK LIKE?
We will assess your skin's undertone during your appointment to predict how pigment colors may fade in the future. We'll also mix pigments to make sure the color matches your existing brow and hair color.
Cosmetic tattoos on the majority of our clients stay true to color and lighten gradually over time. Colors may fade to different tones depending on the individual's reaction to the pigments in some situations (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies). These alterations are influenced by a variety of circumstances.
We'll re-evaluate how your body has responded to the original color at your next session. At this moment, a special formula adjustment is applied to fix the color and prevent additional color change.
Your brow tattoo will fade over time and take on a more "powdered" appearance. As the skin matures, this happens to all clients. A refresher appointment is recommended every 1 to 2 years to keep your hair strokes looking nice. Each client's outcome is unique.
WHAT SHOULD I BE AFRAID OF IN LONG-TERM CARE?
After healing, a good sunscreen should be applied regularly to help keep the color true. Sun exposure will cause the color to fade more quickly, as it will with any tattoo.
The amount of time it takes for your pigment to fade depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color, broken capillaries, and whether or not you had any chemical peels after your surgery.
Please let the technician know if you've had a cosmetic tattoo before getting a chemical peel, laser treatment, or any other medical procedure. To avoid harming the tattooed region, careful application is required.
WILL I BE SUITABLE FOR COSMETIC TATTOOING?
The hairstroke eyebrow procedure will not work for you if you have highly oily skin. The hairstrokes will mend with a diffused, softer appearance due to the ongoing generation of oil. The finished result will be more powdered than you anticipated.
Your tattoo will appear more 2-dimensional if you have little to no existing hair compared to clients who have more hair naturally.
If you smoke frequently, your color may disappear more quickly.
Your pigment may fade faster and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the operation if you are iron deficient or anemic.
PLEASE NOTE: We no longer offer cover-up or re-work treatments if you have already had your brows tattooed. In circumstances like these, we can't promise a positive outcome.
In some cases, if the prior work is extremely dark, dense, discolored, or huge, tattoo removal is highly advised before we consider our services. Additional sessions are nearly always required for previously tattooed areas, and they will be charged appropriately. Some exceptional circumstances may be considered. If you have any additional queries, please contact us.
IS IT SAFE TO WORK IN THE STUDIO AND WITH THE EQUIPMENT?
Absolutely! We take care in maintaining a spotless and sterile studio environment. We only use needles and supplies that are single-use and disposable. This means that each new client's set-up is safely destroyed later. Before opening and after each treatment throughout the day, each of our stations is completely disinfected.
